State Bar Association, in a comprehensive study of the economics of law
practice in New York, sought to measure attorneys' average overhead costs.
The study revealed that in 1995 individual overhead costs for a single
attorney in a law firm of five or fewer attorneys averaged approximately

adjusted by 15% to update the estimate of an average attorney's overhead

$86,652.50. A normal lawyer or law firm's overhead runs around 50 percent to 60 percent
